SMITH, William Holmes "Bill" Age 89. November 14, 2010. Preceded in death by parents, Elise Holmes and Charles Benjamin Smith; siblings, Laura Mai Maddux, Roy B. Smith, Walter S. Smith. Growing up in Pasquo, he attended and graduated from Coleman Brown Elementary and Bellevue High School, where he was Valedictorian at both schools. He served in WW II from 1942 – 1946 as a Supply Officer under the 3rd Army and as Personnel Officer of the 604th Ordinance Battalion. He was a Warrant Officer and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service in the Northern France and the Rhineland Campaign. He spent 32 years in Federal Service, 2 years in the War Dept. and 30 in the Social Security Administration in Managerial positions in TN, FL, and Miss., where he received many awards for superior service. In 1950 he received the LL.B. degree later JD. - Doctor of Jurisprudence graduating from the Nashville School of Law. He also attended David Lipscomb College. Mr. Smith was a member of the West End Church of Christ since 1966. He was also a member of the Tenn. Bar Association, a Charter member of the Vanderbilt Commodore Crew, now the Hoops Crew, a member of NARFE Chapter 227, and a member of Cheekwood: Also a member of the A. M. Burton Society at Lipscomb University. He is survived by his sister, Mary E. Smith of Pasquo, TN; niece, Shandry S. Cartwright, Hendersonville, TN; nephew, Dr. James R. Smith, Clarksville, TN; and several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home with burial to follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
