William (Bill) Angelo Poghen, age 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 in Portland, TN. He was a member of McKendree Methodist Church in Portland. Bill was born on April 8, 1946 in Youngstown, OH and resided there until 1990 when he transferred to Gallatin, TN with his employer, General Fireproofing (GF). Bill was an avid golfer and worked at Gaylord Springs Golf Links in Nashville, TN after he retired. Not only did he have a love of golf, he also enjoyed softball and football. Being the all-time quarterback for his family's annual Turkey Bowl each Thanksgiving gave him joy beyond measure.
Bill graduated from Rayen High School and joined the Marines during the Vietnam Era. He always had a good story to tell to keep his family laughing. Bill was also a very good cook. His homemade pasta sauce was something to be proud of and has been passed down through the generations.
Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara (Gina) Poghen, son, Carl (Pamela) Poghen, daughters Julie (Joe) Stefanec and Angela (Josh) Hardin, stepchildren Tammie Cummins and Jason Garner, 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Angelo Poghen, sister, Janice Dolansky, and first wife, Helene Poghen.
A private memorial service will be held on November 14, 2020 at 11:00AM at Crestview Memory Gardens in Gallatin, TN.
