SMITH, Raymond Roger age 70 of Dickson Tn. Passed away on June 23, 2009. He was born in Monroe Michigan on December 7, 1938 to the late Raymond Simon and Eleanor Bernice Smith. He was a graduate of Monroe County High School where he was a shot putter on the track team and played tackle on the football team. He was in the Cub Scouts and a Cub Scout leader with all boys earning the Arrow of Light awards, which is the highest award that can be earned in the Boy Scouts. He was a certified Bob Ross art teacher and artist. He served in the civil air patrol before entering the army. He became an Army Sergeant Specialist E5 and served in Germany. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Donelson Chapter and Shriner in Nashville & Norman OK Boomers, worked in the restaurant industry as an owner/operator from 1962 to 1998 and went to work for the Dickson County Board of Education as a school bus driver. He loved children and working with them. He is survived by his wife Nancy P. Smith; children, Debbie Saylors, Michael B. Smith; stepchildren, Debbie Calvert, Donna Myatt, Alan Rider, Ronald "Sam" Rider; 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; devoted friends, Ron & Lynn Caldwell and Jo Barnett. Funeral services will be on Friday at 1 pm at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home with Jeff Gregory officiating, interment to follow in the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Sam Rider, Clint Rider, Richard Alan McCoy, Ronald Caldwell, Larry Saylors, Doug Landrum, Ray Wood and Jason Wells will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 pm at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
