Miriam Dolores Nagle Wierzbicki, age 86, passed away April 16, 2019. Formerly of Waldwick, NJ, Miriam spent the last 8 years with her daughter and son-in-law in Gallatin, TN after experiencing some medical issues. In 2018 she was diagnosed with lung cancer and took part in a clinical trial because she knew that her experiences would help others successfully battle their cancer. The family would like to thank the medical staffs at Sumner Regional Medical Center and Tennesse Oncology as well as her in-home care team for their exceptional care over the last year.
Miriam was born September 14, 1932 in New Jersey to George and Minnie Nagle. One of 18 children, Miriam was no stranger to big families. She had six children of her own and settled in Waldwick, NJ. She worked multiple jobs at a time to support the family. She retired in 1994 from Hohokus School where she was a custodian and achieved her Boiler's License. Being resilient and resourceful, her hard-working values were passed down to her children and grandchildren who thank her for teaching them that nothing is to be taken for granted.
After retirement, Miriam spent her days sewing yoyo quilts, playing bingo and visiting casinos. She loved to go to yard sales and volunteered at a church thrift store. Anyone who knew Miriam knew she walked everywhere and often found coins. To this day, many family members keep their eyes open for pennies on the ground during their walks.
Miriam enjoyed seeing her family during visits back home and as they visited her in Gallatin. She collected angels and watched the cardinals outside of her window. The family dogs, Teddy, Coby, Trisha and Bonnie miss bird watching with their grandma terribly.
Miriam is survived by her children Frank (Jill) Wierzbicki, Debbie (John) Szwed, Greg (Susan) Wierzbicki, Lucia (Michael) Baird and Michael (Linda) Wierzbicki. As well as her grandchildren Anthony (Bridget), Jessica, Jodie, Valerie (Ryan), Shannon (Tyler), Jackie, Michael (Sonia), Marie (Larry), Greg, Kyle, Ali, Michael, and great-grandchildren Robert, Dante, Riley, Chaz, Anna, Addi, Ally and Lucas. She is also survived by multiple nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her sister Beatrice Perna and brother John Nagle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Joseph (Joey) Wierzbicki, her siblings Russell, Lillian, Edward, Claire, Frank and multiple half-siblings.
Miriam's wishes were to not have a service but to encourage you to gather with the ones you love and enjoy each other's company. For those wishing to send flowers, we instead invite you to make a donation in Miriam's name to your local Humane Society or Meals on Wheels, because while Miriam had a loving and attentive family, not everyone is as fortunate.
