Melva Sue Goforth, 83, left this earth to join her Lord and Savior in her Heavenly home on Wednesday afternoon, May 23, 2018. Sue was born in Iowa Park, TX on November 9, 1934 a daughter of the late Steve and Lottie Brown. Sue has been of the Church of God Faith since an early age. She began playing the piano at the early age of 11 and her ability as an accomplished musician to Glorify and Honor the Lord her entire life. While still in Texas, she met and married her loving husband Leon and sang as the Revival-Aires Quartet for many years. They later went on to form the Singing Goforth Family and sang in Texas as well as Tennessee when they relocated to Cleveland in 1971. Sue served alongside her husband Leon as the pastored the Hopewell Church of God for twenty-two years. During that time, she also served as office manager for Dr. Paul Grayson Smith. After her retirement in 2002 they relocated to Gallatin, TN to be near their son Steve. She will be forever remembered for her love for God, family and all those she encountered.
Sue leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving childhood sweetheart and husband of Sixty-Six years on May 22, 2018 Leon, one son and daughter in law Steve and Dianna Goforth of Gallatin, TN, one sister Norma Jean Fox and one brother Jerald Brown (Beverly) both of Iowa Park, TX. She is also survived by numerous other extended family members, church family and a host of special friends.
Visitation is planned for Tuesday night, May 29, 2017 at the Hopewell Church of God located at 5765 Eureka Road NW in Cleveland, TN from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The family will also receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until the 7:00 PM service time.
A celebration of life service is planned for Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 6:00 PM in the Sanctuary of Hopewell Church with the Reverend Jerry Millwood and the Reverend Mark Williams officiating. The family will have a private interment on Thursday, May 31, 2018 in the Summer Memorial Gardens in Gallatin, TN.
