Martha Ann Coleman Bach, Age 89, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Oct. 27th, 2010 following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron T. Bach of Nashville, her parents, Anna Sharp and Harold Coleman of Hopkinsville, KY; her sisters Mary Lou Gordinier of Louisville, KY; and Maurine Blakey of Hopkinsville, KY and Nashville, TN and her brother, Richard Carden Coleman of Strongsville, Ohio.
Martha Ann, better known to family and friends as "Marty" was born on June 13th, 1921 in Hopkinsville, KY. She enrolled at the University of Kentucky where she met the love of her life- Byron Theodore Bach. They found that they shared a passion for music and family.
Marty and Byron married on December 19, 1942 and remained together for 66 years. Survivors include; children, Dr. Carole Ann Bach, Lynn Bach, Ted Bach Sherry and Cathy Guenther Bob. She also has five grandsons- Richard T. Matthai Jr., Bobby Guenther and Matthew, Daniel and Kevin Bach. Also included are numerous nephews, nieces, and family and friends.
Throughout Marty's marriage, education was stressed and valued. She returned to college when her children were in school and completed her degree in education. She graduated from George Peabody College in 1968. She taught at Brookmeade Elementary School for 6 years. From Brookmeade, she moved to Harding Academy where she taught 4th grade till she retired. Marty was particularly known for her yearly dramatic productions.
Marty and Byron were active members of Belle Meade United Methodist Church for many years. A memorial service will be held at the Belle Meade United Methodist Church on Sunday, Nov. 7th, 2010 at 2:00 PM. The service will be officiated by Dr. Mike Ripski, Regina Proctor and Michael O'Bannon. Visitation with the familyh will be at 1:00 PM in the Church Parlor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Curry Ingram Academy Scholarships Fund at 6544 Murray Lane, Brentwood, TN 37027 or Belle Meade United Methodist Church at 121 Davidson Road, Nashville, TN 37205. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Lakeshore, the Meadows Nursing Home for the compassion and loving care they provided to her, particularly Paige, Sparkle, Idris, Doris, and Tara.
