BATEY, Margaret Jordan - Age 95 of Nashville, died on January 16, 2011 at Lakeshore Meadows. Born May 10, 1915, near Smyrna, Tennessee to Maggie and James Benjamin Batey, Sr. Preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sue Batey Baker. Survived by sisters, Ann Batey Whitley of Nashville and Evelyn Batey Sigmund of Lake Charles, LA; brothers, J. Benjamin Batey Jane of Murfreesboro, TN and Thomas E. Batey Bonnie of Maryville, TN; eleven nieces and nephews and their children in addition to many cherished cousins. Margaret was a graduate of Smyrna High School, David Lipscomb College, Middle Tennessee State Teachers College and Peabody College where she earned her M.A. She taught Spanish for 30 years Hillsboro High School and was honored during that time as both a Merit Teacher and Teacher of the Year. Professional memberships included Tennessee Foreign Language Teachers Association and National Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Margaret attended West End Church of Christ for over 50 years and in recent years worshipped at Bellevue Church of Christ. The family gratefully acknowledges the compassionate care provided by the staff at Lakeshore Meadows. Appreciation is also expressed to Dr. Mark Stubblefield and to Guardian Hospice. Funeral service will be 3:00pm Tuesday at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home with a family graveside to follow on Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro. Visitation will be 1pm – 3pm on Tuesday at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home.
