Lex Burton Brown, age 66 of Hendersonville. Mr. Burton entered this life on August 20, 1943, and departed to meet our beloved Savior on October 5, 2009. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Lex Garland Brown and Bonnie Ruth Ray Brown Dixon; baby brother, Ray Allison Brown, and little sisters, Anna Myrlene and Edna Louise Brown. He is survived by his loving step-father; Willie "Bill" Dixon of Gallatin; sisters, Bonnie Sue Brown of Hendersonville and Bettye Jean Brown of Old Hickory. He is also survived by his wife of 42 years, Neta Clements Brown; daughters, Pamela Kay Elliott of Gainesville, GA, Teresa Diane Henning of Hendersonville, Lisa Walter Sloan of Hendersonville; son, Derek Julie Brown of Gallatin and daughter, Kim Chad Jones of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Daniel and Leslie Elliott of Atlanta, GA, Mat Tana Conard and Brandon Crystal Conard of Nashville, Taylor Rae and Emilie Paige Sloan of Hendersonville, Lex Jackson "Jack", Graham Justin and Cohen Isaac aka George Jones of Hendersonville; and Hannah Rose Brown of Gallatin; great grandchildren, Kendra and Hayden Conard and Alison and Logan Conard. Burton learned the painting trade with his dad. In addition to his painting profession, he also worked at DuPont in Old Hickory for 22 years. During his career, he painted for his cousin Braxton Dixon on such projects as Roy Orbison's original Hendersonville home, the home of the late Johnny and June Carter Cash and various other notable homes. In later years, he and son-in-law, Walter Sloan, formed "Painters in the House." He continued to work until his illness required early retirement. Burton will be deeply missed by a host of dearly loved friends, extended family members, and most especially, the fellow long-time members of "The Grapevine Gang" family. The family welcomes the comfort of visits from dear friends and family from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesay, October 7 at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 8, 2009, in the Chapel at Long Hollow Baptist Church in Hendersonville. Interment will follow in the Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Walter Sloan, Chad Jones, Gary Irwin, Larry Irwin, Chris Dismukes, Scott Johnson, Todd Carter, and Scott Murray will serve as pallbearers. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sarah Cannon Research Institute, Nashville, TN.
