Jack A. Matthews went home to "God's country" (Southern California) on October 16, 2016, after 21 years in TN.

Jack was a connoisseur of a good bottled beverage & a camel non-filtered short. He retired after 42 yrs. with Owen Illinois Glass Co. that made bottles for Budweiser. He followed NASCAR racing and football. Mostly college and high school, but was also a long time Raiders fan. Orange County, CA and Sumner County, TN athletes may not realize that Jack followed your sports careers and updated his family of your achievements (stats included!).
Jack leaves behind an impressive collection of WWII movies and Westerns. He firmly believed that there has not been a decent movie made since 1945. His family is looking for a similar film enthusiast to enjoy Jack's unique collection.

When you met him you first noticed his USC or Tony Stewart ball cap. When you spoke to him he was quick to tell you of his love for CA weather, how he would run the country if he were president and brag about his grandchildren. He was a devoted fan to each of them for all their endeavors.
His family will forever be changed by his absence because his presence gave the most stable assurance and love a man could provide.

His devoted wife of 38 years, Mary Matthews, and their oldest son, Dusty Matthews; sister-in-law, Grace Matthews, precedes him in death. He is survived by his children Jackie Leathers (Vic), Todd Matthews (Leanne), Jimmy Matthews, his unofficially adopted daughter, Sandy Hesson (Jimmy); brother Bob Matthews; sister, Lynda Ash (Howard), ten grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

A Life Celebration and Record Party will be held 4:00pm - 8:00pm, Wednesday, October 19th at Crestview Funeral Home in Gallatin, TN & 10:00am - 12:45pm, Saturday, October 22nd at Hilgenfeld Mortuary in Anaheim, CA with a 1:00pm graveside to follow in Anaheim Cemetery.
