Helen Margaret Osborn Crowder of Gallatin, TN, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2020, at the age of 94.
She was born on November 7, 1926 in Miami, FL to Helen deMedicis Osborn and Hugh Eben Osborn, Sr. She received her teaching degree from Florida State University and taught fourth grade at Westminster Christian School in Miami for 25 years, where she was beloved by students and fellow teachers alike. Teaching was her life-long love and her students were her life's work.
She met her husband of 50 years, Charles J. Crowder, when he was a law student at the University of Miami. They married in 1954 and were both active in the community and members of the First United Methodist Church of South Miami. They raised four children in Miami before relocating to Gallatin in 2002 to be near extended family, where they became active members of Rehoboth Methodist Church.
Helen love to travel and was famous for her Easter bunny cakes and her Key lime pies. More than anything else, she was known for her beautiful smile, her always-cheerful demeanor and for the way she treated everybody she met with unfailing friendliness. She loved people, especially children, and they loved her back. She laughed easily and often and always saw the positive side of life. Her happy face and cheerful soul will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Helen was preceded in death by both parents and by her sister, Dorothy Osborn Stevens, of Greenville, SC; brother, Hugh Eben Osborn, of New York, NY; and daughter, Laurie Crowder Barnes, of Narrowsburg, NY.
She is survived by sons Patterson Crowder of Beth Page, TN, and Jefferson Crowder (Pam) of Alexandria, VA; daughter Teresa Crowder of Atlanta, GA. She will be greatly missed by grandchildren Shannon Crowder Bellamy of Baltimore; David Barnes of California; Desire' Foster of Portland, Oregon; Logan Crowder of Beth Page, TN; Tayler Crowder of Beth Page, TN; and Rachel Crowder of Alexandria, VA.
