LIPSEY, Flo, of Nashville, died on October 26, 2008 following a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Clinton "Mack" Lipsey and her son, David Lipsey Marilyn of Nashville and her brother Jerry Thomas of Raleigh, N.C. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Gladys Barry Thomas of Macon, Ga., a sister Betty Ann Thomas of Macon, Ga., and a sister Christine Thomas Jones of Atlanta, Ga. She graduated from Miller High School in Macon, and from Mercer University, also in Macon.
Flo began her forty year teaching career in Macon in 1952 followed by teaching positions in Chichester, Pa., Madison, Ga., Kingsport, Tn., and Knoxville, Tn. She began teaching in the Nashville Metro schools in the fall of 1972 at Paragon Mills. She also taught first grade at Binkley, Burton, and was at Eakin for ten years before health issues forced her to retire in 1991. Flo will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation for family and friends will be at the Harpeth Hills Funeral Services, 9090 Highway 100, on Thursday, October 30, from 5 to 8 p.m.
