ATWOOD, George W., 93, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010. Born in Portland, TN May 12, 1917, he was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Wendell Coffman for 67 years until her passing in 2007. George was a driver and supervisor for Metro Transit Authority for 52 years and was a talented building contractor. He was a member of Al-Menah Shrine Temple and a 32nd degree Mason. He leaves behind his children George S. Atwood of Brentwood and Ginger A. Gray of Memphis, as well as five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He loved us well and he will be greatly missed by us all. He was preceded in death by brothers, John Atwood, Hiram Atwood, James Atwood, William Atwood, Thomas Atwood, and Woodrow Atwood; sisters Maudie Atwood, Lillian Whitson, and Nellie Burkes. Memorial contributions may be made to Nashville First Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13. A Masonic Service will be at 7 p.m. on Friday.
