Doris Kinney

Doris Ilene Kinney, age 88 of Gallatin passed away November 6, 2021. Mrs. Kinney was born on November 12, 1932, in Winfield, Kansas to the late Henry and Ethel Stewart. Ilene attended Abilene Christian College where she met and married her husband, Don, of 64 years. Later, she earned a Master of Education degree at Butler University. Ilene was a beloved elementary teacher for almost 30 years teaching at public and Christian schools in Nebraska, Indiana, and Oklahoma. During the last 10 years of her teaching career and while teaching first grade, she served as director of Norman Christian Academy in Norman, Oklahoma. Exceptionally patient and wise, Ilene also served with her husband as a gospel preacher’s wife in Texas, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Indiana, and Oklahoma. God and family were her true loves. She cared deeply for everyone’s soul wanting all to obey the gospel to live eternally with God. Since moving to Tennessee in 2004, Ilene and her husband, Don had been faithful members of the Nashville Road Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her grandson, Kyle Kinney. She is survived by her children: Wayne Kinney (Lois), Chris Kinney (Terri) and Karen Hutson (David); grandchildren: Rachel Kinney, Mike Kinney (Liz), Ben Hutson, John Kinney (Morgan), Lauren Mikosz (Alex), and Grant Kinney; great-grandchildren: Gavin Kinney, Kamden Kinney, Jack Kinney, Henry Kinney, Luke Kinney, and Caleb Kinney. A Life Celebration Service honoring Ilene will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 11:30 A.M. at the Nashville Road Church of Christ with Andrew Spivey officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday at the church building from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service.
