Albert Farmer

God, family, the Church of the Nazarene, the U. S. A., and Eastern Airlines: Each one of these was highly significant and important in Wayne's life. Albert Wayne Farmer was born in Buhl (rhymes with "fuel"), Idaho, November 28, 1921, and moved with his family to Los Angeles County, California, when he was five. Raised on irrigated farms on the Mojave Desert near Lancaster and Palmdale, CA, he and his nine brothers and sisters were a loving, close bunch until their world was split apart--their mom was killed in a car accident. An older sister, who was 20 and soon to be married, gained legal custody of the youngest four children and kept up with them until they could get a good start in life. The family scattered. Wayne, at 17, was one of the older Farmer children--he had just graduated from Antelope Valley Joint Union School and had been working for Standard Oil Company. He soon moved and began attending Pasadena College--now Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, CA. In 1942 Wayne was drafted into the U. S. Army Air Force and was eventually stationed on Miami Beach. He met Ruth Johnson while visiting Miami Central Church of the Nazarene where they were married in 1944. Wayne worked for Eastern Airlines (the "Great Silver Fleet") from 1948 until 1981 when he retired from being a "systems analyst"--helped get "out-of-service" planes back in the air and flying safely again. Wayne passed away September 3, 2014. Family and loved ones who died before him include his parents, Henry and Esther Ellis Farmer, eight brothers and sisters, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Dora Miles Johnson and Sam Johnson, and his devoted, loving wife of 67 years, Ruth Evelyn. Survivors include his youngest sister Lois Adams, St. Paris, Ohio; his daughter Esther Hanner and her husband, Everett--Goodlettsville, TN; his son Roger, Kansas City, Missouri; his granddaughters Natalie Crick and her husband, Brian--Hendersonville, TN; and Brittany Lowe and her husband, Todd, White House, TN ; and his grandson Trenton Hanner, Nashville, TN. Wayne's great-grandchildren (the "mighty greats") are Olivia, Julianna, Adam, Justine, and Jude. He has nieces and nephews in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Mississippi, Kentucky, Ohio, California, Nevada, and Alaska. Also surviving is his good buddy/brother-in-law W. C. Marks of Atlanta, Georgia. Wayne's service will be conducted at Crestview Memory Gardens and Funeral Home, 1623 Highway 109 North, Gallatin, TN, Monday, September 8, at 11:00. Visitation will precede the service from 9:00 until service time with Rev. Phillip Smith of Goodlettsville Church of the Nazarene officiating. Private burial will be at Middle Tennessee State Veterans' Cemetery in Pegram, Tennessee.
